APPLICATIONS FOR MID-WINTER RECESS GAME DESIGN LAB NOW OPEN!

February 20–22, 2019, 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Spend your mid-winter recess at Game Design Lab, a unique three-day program for high school students at Museum of the Moving Image. The Lab is completely free, but space is limited.

This year the lab will explore the landscape between video games and video art, led by Visual Artist Ahmed El Shaer. El Shaer is a multi-disciplinary artist whose practice spans the mediums of installation, photography, sound and video, with a particular interest in digital technologies. His videos combine Machinima, stock footage, 3D animation and experimental soundscapes. Based in Cairo, El Shaer will exhibit his work Crossover at the Museum, opening on Feb 9, 2019.

When & Where
Game Design Lab meets February 20–22 (Wednesday-Friday) from 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. each day. The Lab is held at the Museum. Participants are responsible for bringing or purchasing their own lunch and finding their own transportation to and from the Museum. Snacks will be provided.

How To Apply
The Lab is open to high school students currently enrolled in 9th–12th grade at a New York City school. No previous experience is necessary. Apply online here. Completed applications must be received by Saturday, February 2. Participants will be notified by February 5.

What You'll Do
PLAY classic games; discover some of the newest independent games being created; learn what makes your favorite game fun.

DESIGN modifications to your favorite games to make them your own; collaborate with your Lab partners to develop creative solutions; play test your ideas.

CONNECT with professional game developers; explore college and career opportunities in game design; gain behind-the-scenes access to games in the Museum’s collection; network with peers from other schools.
